Today when popping into Yarmouth town I noticed that the range of the gateway seemed to have been severly degraded with previous signal being strong across the stretch of road at the Gorleston Clifftop.
So I thought I'd do some checks and possible improvements.
Software
One part I've been uncertain about is the software and weather it is the best one to use with multiple forks of the packet forwarder and HAL being available. I remembered that Paul from the Norfolk community mentioned about a workshop where they used Resin.io instead to setup a Raspberry Pi gateway with one of the advantages being that if then I were to manage multiple gateways in different locations it would be easier to manage. I then looked and found the tutorial at https://github.com/kersing/gateway-workshop.
I followed the tutorial and noticed a slight improvement in responsiveness. The software also uses the newer packet forwarding method which is known to be more reliable. Excellent.
Hardware
For the hardware there's little change, When setting up Resin.IO I used a brand new SD card. I checked one of the connectors the best I could without requiring re-soldering and it all looked fine. However I am considering replacing the connector at the other end at some point.
I'll report back on signal testing tomorrow.
