# The Things Network Sheffield A local community of The Things Network: people building an open, free LoRaWAN® network for the Internet of Things in and around Sheffield. - Country: [United Kingdom](https://www.thethingsnetwork.org/country/united-kingdom/) - Status: Official community - Founded: 2016 - Members: 57 - Location: 53.3784, -1.4557 - Web page: https://www.thethingsnetwork.org/community/sheffield/ ## About Things Network Sheffield aims to create a community owned and operated LoRaWAN network in Sheffield, covering the city centre, and as many local neighborhoods as we can. Through the support of the communities developed by Sheffield Digital and the SmartSheffield meetup, and via the two Sheffield universities, Shefield College and the private firms listed below, we also aim to educate and develop Sheffield's capacity for creating new applications and user experiences using the network. **Who's behind Things Network Sheffield?** The Things Network Sheffield was originally founded in 2016 by Scott Knowles of [ObjectForm](http://objectform.co.uk/) and Kurtis Wright of [Sheffield Community Technologies](https://www.sheffieldcommunity.technology/). Since the Spring of 2017, however, it has been organised by Chris Dymond of [Sheffield Digital](https://sheffield.digital/)and [Unfolding](http://unfolding.co.uk/), with meetings held in conjunction with the bi-monthly [SmartSheffield meetup](http://smartsheffield.rocks/). This provides for regular meetings and communications, with community members taking on the coordination of specific initiatives.
