This talk highlights the importance of end-device security and secure key handling in hostile environments.
As shown by the demo, a class of attacks, called side-channel and fault analysis, can be applied to extract sensitive information, such as AES keys
and firmware, as well to bypass security measures, e.g., JTAG protection. To apply those attacks, a malicious user needs physical access to an end-device; thus,
only information on one particular device can be extracted. Nevertheless, the extracted information can be used in further attack scenarios. It is important to highlight,
that side-channel and fault attacks can be applied against any class of semiconductor devices, including IoT chips, set-top-boxes, smart cards, general-purpose microcontrollers
and others. To prevent those attacks secret handling shall be performed by secure elements specifically protected against side-channel and fault analysis.

Asset location tracking is often disrupted by blindspots that arise when assets are located across a variety of physical environments, ranging from indoor to outdoor. This poses a challenge as current market solutions are not suited to all environments, with some being more efficient in strictly outdoor (e.g. GNSS) or indoor (e.g. BLE, UWB, WiFi) settings. Because of this, tracking capabilities are often blighted by poor accuracy and range, high infrastructure demands, and increased power consumption. This keynote will cover these three key challenges which must be overcome in order to successfully track and manage assets across both indoor and outdoor settings, and will explore how LoRa 2.4 GHz might just be the solution we are looking for.

In this talk, Adam Sobol the founder and CEO of CareBand, will share how LoRaWAN and edge computing is transforming the lives of, and the care for, people living with dementia. There is a massive opportunity to utilize LoRaWAN’s capabilities to drive behavior and activity insights to keep people safer and healthier for longer. Existing solutions are costly and limited by access to WiFi and cellular signals, paving the way for LoRaWAN to extend care.
CareBand’s easy-to-use LoRaWAN-based wearable tracks real-time indoor & outdoor location, monitors acute changes in health condition and incorporates social determinants of health into meaningful health technology design. CareBand’s dedication to understanding the social and behavioral experience of dementia allows older adults to live safely, remain independent, and avoid unnecessary hospitalizations. Between the cost-saving potential to the healthcare system and individuals affected by dementia, CareBand’s potential is limitless. Digital commercial deployments in cities are based on targeting the high density of population and the ability to deploy limited types of products at scale. In IoT think parking sensors or waste bin monitors. Commercial business models and the supply chains that feed them are tuned to this “at scale” model. This is why, when they look beyond the city walls, they cannot visualise how to make money when the population density drops off – treating it as a “low density city” just does not work.
This is very understandable, but short sighted. When you look closer at rural you realise that whilst the population density falls away beyond urban, the number of use cases increases exponentially. For those who see this and can change their business model to suit, there is a great opportunity set waiting.
This talk will expand on these principles and by example present a device design challenge for the development community to seize the rural opportunity.

Starting with an idea and a Proof of Concept on just a few development boards we found the need to do a custom design in hard- and software for our LoRaWAN station clock project. We’re giving an insight on how we put that into a detailed requirements specification for a call for tenders to find partners for the development of an industrial-grade IoT module.

IoT means data acquisition and communication in any spot around the globe and sometimes under the most challenging environmental conditions.
A mechanical component like a “Box” might be worlds apart from the IoT buzzwords at first glance but in fact it is an integral part of an IoT device.
The talk will give an introduction into some of the most relevant topics in enclosure design.
Ingress- and impact protection, material-related and functional parameters and even volume production and logistics – all these aspects require attention in order to create the optimum enclosure for an IoT device.
Learn to make relevant considerations and choose the right set of design parameters right from the start of your IoT project.

Workshop
In just a few years, connecting LoRaWAN devices has become almost too easy of a task: there is a plethora of network server implementations as well as public and private network operators to choose from for connecting your applications.
However, as collecting sensor data becomes easier and easier, one key challenge remains: how to make sure that said data does not end up in yet another silo, and instead becomes an integral part of your information system.
In this workshop, we will be following a step-by-step approach to go from zero, to having our own LoRaWAN Network Server -- The Things Stack -- running on Azure, effectively making data more easily and efficiently routable to enterprise systems also deployed in the cloud.
We will also learn how sensor data can be synchronized in real-time with a digital twin environment modeling a complete smart building environment.
Finally we will connect our digital twin "knowledge graph" to a Blender 3D model, therefore enabling rich, real-time, data visualization and interaction, all in less than 25 lines of code!
Part 1: Deploying The Things Stack on Azure.
Part 2: The Things Stack meets Digital Twins and real-time 3D visualization.

Some environments - like tunnels - are built for LoRaWAN. In this workshop, Veea and Trionix will present how they built an innovative solution that dramatically simplifies the monitoring and control system for underground environments, while providing the benefits of centralized, cloud-based monitoring. By using a highly integrated LoRaWAN solution, the cost and complexity of more traditional wired solutions is replaced with a simpler, easily deployed hybrid edge/cloud computing solution.

As LoRaWAN infrastructure becomes more dense and sensor deployments more critical, the need for a reliable way to identify and tackle network issues becomes more prominent. It is pretty common for a network operator to monitor the status of their infrastructure in a way which is blind to the intricate details of the LoRa radio layer, causing them to fall into time-consuming pitfalls when troubleshooting.
Join our presentation to learn how Kudzu Analytics can provide the missing piece of information in your network. By processing your radio meta-data we make it possible to monitor the health and performance of the network in real-time. Our customers are farmers, their assets are living and breathing animals. These farmers operate in the most remote and rural areas of Norway, they demand high quality asset tracking with 100% connectivity. We have created our own hybrid LoRaWAN + Cellular solution, combining LR1110 and NRF9160. To make this possible we have created our own Offgrid Gateway System operating in one of the world's most extreme weather conditions, the Norwegian mountain landscape.

Attenbd this workshop to learn - and see - how they did it.
