The IoT is in purgatory. Stuck between its promise and potential. Bogged down by failed deployments and the 650-day crawl between a prototype and 100-unit deployment. Fragmented by arguments over connectivity approaches, standards proliferation, “black box” mentalities, and cloud-centric thinking.

We’re moving too slow, and if we’re ever going to cross the chasm into the world of a trillion devices, we must speed up. We need to ruthlessly focus on the pain of our customers and accelerate every step along their journey to a connected application. We need to enable developers with useful, unobtrusive tools and services. And we need to move from either-or connectivity discussions to embracing any mix of topologies that help our customers reduce their time to value.

The promise of the IoT is still ahead, but to get there, it’s time to take a different approach.
