Barometer sensing measures barometric (atmospheric) pressure, the weight of the air column above the sensor, usually expressed in hectopascals (hPa) or millibars. Because pressure changes track weather systems and altitude, this reading is a core input for forecasting, environmental monitoring, and elevation estimates.
A LoRaWAN barometer device samples its pressure element on a schedule, packs the value into a compact payload, and transmits it over a long-range, low-power radio link to a gateway and network server. A payload codec then decodes the bytes into usable readings, often alongside temperature and battery status. The low duty cycle lets battery units run for years.
