CO₂ sensing reports the concentration of carbon dioxide in the surrounding air, usually expressed in parts per million (ppm). Because CO₂ levels climb when people exhale in an enclosed space, the reading is a reliable proxy for ventilation adequacy and room occupancy, and a core input for indoor air quality programs.
LoRaWAN CO₂ devices typically pair a non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) sensing element with a low-power radio. They sample at set intervals, encode the value into a small uplink payload, and send it over long range to a gateway. A payload codec on the network server decodes the data for dashboards, alerts and automated ventilation control. Many models also report temperature and humidity in the same message.
