Vibration sensing measures the oscillating motion of a machine or structure, typically expressed as RMS velocity (mm/s), peak acceleration (g), or displacement. Shifts in these values reveal imbalance, misalignment, bearing wear, looseness and other developing faults, making vibration a core signal for condition monitoring.
LoRaWAN vibration sensors mount on motors, pumps, fans, gearboxes and bearings. They sample the waveform locally, often compute summary metrics or basic FFT data on-device to save airtime, and send compact uplinks over long-range, low-power LoRaWAN to a gateway. A payload codec decodes the readings, and many devices also report temperature and trigger threshold alarms.
These devices support predictive maintenance across manufacturing, utilities, HVAC, water treatment and building management. When comparing options, weigh:
- Measurement range, resolution and number of axes (single vs. triaxial)
- Sampling rate, bandwidth and whether raw/FFT data is available
- Battery life, IP enclosure rating and mounting style
- Supported regional frequency plans and an available decoder
Match sensor bandwidth to your equipment’s fault frequencies for reliable diagnostics.

Frequently asked questions
What does a LoRaWAN vibration sensor measure?
Most report vibration as RMS velocity (mm/s) and peak acceleration (g), often across X, Y and Z axes. Many also derive frequency-domain or FFT data and pair vibration with surface temperature to give a fuller picture of machine health.
How do LoRaWAN vibration sensors send data?
They sample on a schedule or when a threshold is exceeded, then transmit a compact uplink over LoRaWAN to a gateway and network server. A payload codec decodes the bytes into vibration values your application or dashboard can use.
What should I compare when choosing one?
Look at measurement range and resolution, sampling rate and bandwidth, number of axes, battery life, IP enclosure rating, mounting method, supported regional frequency plans, and whether the device ships with a payload decoder.
