LoRaWAN Weight Sensors

LoRaWAN weight sensors use load cells to measure mass remotely and report it over long-range, low-power wireless links.

Weight sensing measures the mass or load applied to a surface, structure, or container. In a LoRaWAN device this is typically done with one or more load cells that produce a small electrical signal proportional to force; the sensor amplifies, digitises, and calibrates that signal into a mass value.

Because LoRaWAN is long-range and low-power, these devices wake periodically, send a compact payload, and sleep again, letting battery-powered units run for years on remote or hard-to-reach assets. Readings are decoded by a payload codec into engineering units on your network server. Typical applications include:

  • Tank, silo, bin, and gas-bottle fill-level monitoring
  • Scale and platform inventory tracking
  • Beehive and agricultural load monitoring

When comparing devices, check rated capacity and resolution, accuracy as a percentage of full scale, the number of load-cell channels supported, and whether temperature compensation is included. Also confirm enclosure rating for outdoor or industrial sites, supported regional frequency plans, battery life, and the availability of a documented payload decoder.

Frequently asked questions

How does a LoRaWAN weight sensor work?

It connects to one or more load cells, which convert the mechanical force of a load into an electrical signal. The device digitises that signal, applies calibration, and transmits the resulting mass reading over a LoRaWAN network on a scheduled interval.

What are LoRaWAN weight sensors used for?

Common uses include monitoring fill levels of gas bottles, feed silos, grain bins, kegs, and bulk-material containers, plus tracking beehive weight, livestock feeders, and inventory on industrial scales, all without manual checks.

How accurate are LoRaWAN weight sensors?

Accuracy depends on the load cell grade, calibration, and mounting, and is often expressed as a percentage of full-scale capacity. Temperature compensation and stable installation improve repeatability over time.
