How do I convince IT that there is no risk to network from installing a gateway?

Trying to install a gateway on the roof of my building at work.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any documentation I can use to show my IT department that opening up ports or whatever they need to do isn’t a risk to the network? They are looking into it but I’m afraid that means they will say no if they don’t understand how the gateway operates.

…and also you may get in contact with your building facility managers, concercing tunderbolt damaging.

That’s a good point. We have a very tall radio tower near the location and I’m sure it is very well grounded so I’m not too worried.
