Sodaq One not connecting to TTN

(Friet74) #1

Hi,

I have joined the IoT techday today and received a Sodaq One during a hackaton. I was not able to finish the project during the hackaton so I hoped to finish this at home.
I used the instructions from https://github.com/TheThingsNetwork/workshops/blob/master/IoT-Tech-Day.md

Using the serial monitor it looks like it is connecting, however in the TTN console I don't receive data and the device status remains "never seen". The GPS parameters in the debug output are also zero.

At this moment I'm a little bit stuck and don't have a clue if it is a hardware problem, configuration problem, or that I don't have LoRa connection at my location (Pompenburg in Rotterdam).

I would be very grateful if someone could give me a help me in the right direction.

Below the serial output:

You may check this:
1. DEVEUI unique? (e.g. try other)
2. Keys correct, matching with DEVEUI and settings in TTN console?
3. Board in range of a TTN gateway?
4. try increasing SF7 to SF12 and switch off ADR
5. try frame counter reset for device in ttn console
6. try OTA join instead of ABP

At the website TTN mapper, you can see where there are active TTN gateways.

I'd not try OTAA. First, get it working using ABP (like you're doing).

And if you install the app (Android only?) then you can take the node outside and see if it connects to the gateway(s).

Thanks! I was only looking at the technical issues, so I missed the human factor in the problem and that was my "patience". I waited for half an hour and it looks like it is sending data. :+1:

Thanks, I thought that the coverage was better in te center of Rotterdam, but I think a few gateways nearby are switched off. Because I'm connected to an gateway further away.

App installed! I will try the node outside. The signal strength is -111db, which doesn't sound very high.

-111 rssi is far enough to connect with 25mW (poweridx 14), at least with SF12. But check SNR, too.

We had and have an issue with RF performance of sodaq one, couldn't solve it yet. Very poor performance yet.
