Description

The Cisco LoRaWAN Gateway is carrier-grade solution suitable for users who have experience with Cisco software, and that are looking for an industrial-grade LoRaWAN gateway. It supports 16 channels, as well as geolocation.

Compliance with LoRa and LoRaWAN specifications
The Cisco Wireless Gateway supports end device types Class A, B, and C, GPS clock timing synchronization, channel diversity, spreading factors, and adaptive data rate (ADR). It also supports the regional frequency profile defined for LoRa Alliance such as EU 863-870 MHz, India 865-867 MHz, US 902-928 MHz, Australia 915-928 MHz, and AS 923 MHz.

High-spectrum bandwidth utilization
The gateway follows Semtech™ version 2 gateway hardware reference design. It embeds two of Semtech SX1301 baseband chipsets and supports up to 16 uplink channels allowing 16 data packets to arrive at the same time. This capability improves the spectrum utilization up to 4 MHz frequency bandwidth and increases overall system capacity.

Superior geolocation
The gateway embeds FPGA, DSP, and high accuracy GPS specifically designed for geolocation through TDoA and RSSI. Compared to the traditional built-in GPS chipset endpoints at a higher power consumption, the gateway can locate the position of GPS chipset-free endpoints at a lower power consumption level.

Flexible channel diversity combination
The gateway supports multiple-channel diversity combinations via software configurations, such as full diversity and no diversity. Channel diversity is helpful in finding better radio signal link paths from endpoint to gateway, especially in deployments requesting geolocation.

Rich backhaul options
The Cisco Wireless Gateway can be configured and managed as a virtual interface of the Cisco 809 and 829 Industrial Integrated Service Routers. With this configuration, the gateway provides LoRa radio access, and the IR809 and IR829 offers IP backhauls, such as Gigabit Ethernet, Fiber, 4G/LTE, and Wi-Fi. It can also work as a stand-alone unit with its built-in Fast Ethernet backhaul, allowing access to LAN switches, routers, Wi-Fi AP, or other IP interfaces.

Robust security
The advanced Cisco IOS features provided by the IR809 and 829 can help customers easily create robust and secured data paths crossing a public internet to their back-end platform. The advanced features in Cisco IOS, including security, firewalls, routing, and QoS, enable customers to easily overcome the challenges in leveraging less secured and untrusted networks. The gateway embeds a Linux Container (LXC) inside its OS. This approach strictly isolates the third-party software from the host OS with the dedicated CPU and memory resource.

Fully functional management
The gateway is fully managed by the Cisco IoT Field Network Director (IoT FND). Cisco IoT FND provides zero-touch provisioning capabilities to automatically download pre-defined configuration data, firmware upgrades, configuration file backup and restore, IPSEC tunnel setup automation and monitoring, gateway information dash board, alarm report, and performance statistics.
