As per the World Health Organisation (WHO), Food can become contaminated at any point during slaughtering, harvesting, processing, storage, distribution, transportation and preparation. It is essential to monitor food and medicine to avoid food-borne diseases and drugs side effects. As per the food safety system, apart from personal hygiene, proper sanitation and good manufacturing habits we also need to cook food at a safe temperature and keep food warm or refrigerate it promptly if necessary. There are three types of food and Medicine storage: dry, refrigerated and frozen. Therefore, both temperature and humidity play a major role in their storage system.

Some of the important medicines, vaccines and blood must be preserved in proper aspects. In the food sector, maintaining the right temperature and humidity is also of paramount importance and can otherwise lead to an unexpected increase in the price of vegetables during the time of crises. As per the WHO, Increase in the world's population creates demand for both food opportunities and safety. Temperature and climate changes are also predicted to impact on food safety risk in storage and distribution. If any accidental power failure or unsuspectingly increase in temperature will lead to a loss in its distinctiveness. However, the current facility fails to uninterruptedly monitor, record and alert the concerned person in case of changes of temperature or humidity.

Today, a LoRaWAN based temperature and humidity monitoring solution can prevent food and medicine contamination.

Introduction

A LoRaWAN-based temperature and humidity sensor node in medical/food refrigerators is easy to install, provides a long-life battery and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. This solution enables to:
- Keep the storage unit at the proper temperature and humidity to ensure quality and safety
- Receive alerts of critical system failures to solve the problem

The battery-powered LoRaWAN temperature and humidity sensor node can be placed directly inside medical/food refrigerators and cold chain units. This sensor node will periodically transmit temperature and humidity data to the LoRaWAN gateway according to the user's needs. The LoRaWAN Gateway will then send the information to The Things Network (TTN) server, which will forward it to your end application server for permanent storage and various analysis purposes.

Get started with a LoRaWAN temperature and humidity monitoring solution, here is everything you need to set up the solution:

Operation

LHT65 Device

The Dragino LHT65 is a long-range LoRaWAN device that includes a built-in SHT20 temperature and humidity sensor and allows connection to external sensors such as the temperature sensor, soil moisture sensor, tilt sensor, etc.
The LHT65 provides ultra-long range spread spectrum communication and high interference immunity whilst minimizing current consumption. It targets professional wireless sensor network applications such as irrigation systems, smart metering, smart cities, building automation, and so on. For product requirement contact us.

Device

LHT65 has a built-in 2400mAh non-chargeable battery which can be used for more than 10 years. LHT65 is fully compatible with LoRaWAN v1.0.2 protocol and can work with standard LoRaWAN gateway. LHT65 has 3200 data records with date/time which can be retrieved with date/time for further analysis.

Gateway

LoRaWAN multichannel outdoor gateway UG87 is used to receive data from multiple LoRaWAN temperature and humidity monitoring devices installed in different Refrigerators.

Network server

The Things Network enables low power devices to use long-range gateways to connect to an open-source global network and exchange data with a third party application server. Learn more and get started.
For end-to-end enterprise LoRaWAN solutions, The Things Industries provides an integrated chain of products and services for businesses to build private IoT data networks.

Application Server Integration

The data from The Things Network server can then be forwarded to the ETS IoT application server using HTTP POST. The data can be stored and alerts can be customized in the application server to reach the concerned person in time to take remedial actions on the system. ETS IoT application server is the platform of Enthu Technology Solutions India Pvt. Ltd., where the data can be stored to be able to do various analytics and perform alerts. However, this is optional, you can also send the data to your own application server or any other third party server.
