Just wondered if anyone else maintains a single dedicated heartbeat node local to their gateway to maintain/monitor the end to end setup - the theory being that the node sends a heartbeat say every 5, 10 or 15 mins and your Node Red/IFTTT is setup to expect a msgs every xx mins and if this stops you get an alert - rather than just monitoring the gateway etc, this then monitors the whole process. Good idea?

I used a second RTC for that (a dual timer RTC later) , generating an MCU interupt , on which the node transmits on a special ‘heartbeat port’
advantage is that you now know if its the node thats failing or the gw
