For the RF Solutions module it needs one with a uFL connector. The RFM95 you’ll need to solder it on to the Ant connector or you can use some appropriate length wire.

Many of the RFM95’s on eBay come with the small helical antenna that you see on the video start, those are adequate.

I assure you that if that example, or any of the other simple RX TX examples in that library fail to detect the LoRa device the problem is most likely, in order;

Faulty connections.
Faulty LoRa module.
Faulty Arduino.
