LoRa-WiFi Gateway based on ESP32?

Hello all, is it possible to contribute to TTN gateways with own gateway based on TTGO ESP32 LoRa or similar (and wifi router)? I would like to run a gateway for the community, but the 100€ investment seems quite high if TTGO LoRa costs 10€…

Thanks, Jan

The TTGo LoRa is designed as an end device - it can be programmed as a full LoRaWAN device that just happens to have a MCU that has a WiFi module built in.

A gateway has a much more powerful chipset on that can listen on 8 channels at once - which is good as a LoRaWAN device expects to be able to transmit on any of the 8 channels.

If you want to create your own mini-mesh with a TTGO LoRa providing a link to the internet for your range of devices, there is plenty of code around for that, but we only do LoRaWAN on TTN here.

No.

The nodes are expecting to talk to a Gateway with 8 channels.
