TTNOG has stopped booting

I have tried everything. This gateway has been running flawlessly for about 7 years now. Suddenly, it is off-line and I can’t figure out why. I have checked the POE cables, and they are all good. I even brought it inside to see if I could figure it out, but no luck.

When I plug the POE in, I get 2 blue lights that flash a few times on the main (POE) board, after which the blue lights on the LTE board flash intermittently (I have no SIM in the LTE modem).

The device no longer shows up on my network AT ALL and my router does not see anything attached to the port. The light on the POE power module is green, so I assume the power is good.

I have tried to put a serial cable on the board, but get no output. I even put a USB cable on the micro-USB port, but got nothing.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this thing? Or is it just dead?

Don’t know the actual gateway, but power circuitry is often the first thing to go with it’s capacitors, coils/chokes etc. So I’d try powering it directly to see if there is output from the serial &/or it just works. I’d remove the PoE module to do this.

It’s the The Things Network Outdoor Gateway which, granted, is older hardware, but still, it wasn’t cheap! I cannot find a way to power it without the PPoE adapter. Looks like I just have a dead gateway :frowning:

I meant I’m not familiar with the internals of the TTOG so I can’t comment explicitly on the design of the power circuits. A for cheap, that’s relative, I think you have to hit Space Shuttle build levels for the capacitors to become seriously good, otherwise it’s just down to normal lifetimes & how much work they had to do.

I can’t see why you wouldn’t be able to wire a power supply in to the gateway - or replace the PoE adapter - but @Jeff-UK, our resident custodian of ancient gateway technology can advise further.
