Adding WiFi Sniffing to an existing LoRaWAN Application

Introduction

Adding WiFi sniffing capability to an existing Long-range / LoRaWAN Application can be very useful for tracking application. Position tracking using WiFi provides an accurate method of intra-building tracking due to GPS lack of accuracy in building.

Here we are investigating using information about nearby WiFi access points as a way to localize objects or persons over the LoRaWAN network, so without connecting to those WiFi networks. The power consumption is lower than GPS.

The purpose of this abstract is to demonstrate by simple example how to build an indoor tracker based on ATSAMR34-Xpro and ATWINC1500-Xpro boards connected to The Things Network back-end.
