Dragino LHT52 doesn't join to the network

Hi all,

Over the last few months, I’ve been learning about LoRa, LoRaWAN, and TTN, and it’s been very exciting.

I bought a Dragino LHT52 sensor and registered it in the TTN Console and physicaly installed it in Amsterdam-Zuid.
There is a gateway located about 700 meters away.

The problem:
When I insert the batteries, the LED sequence is green → red → blue → green, which seems correct.
However, the final green LED should stay on for about 5 seconds to indicate that the join was successful, but this does not happen.

In the TTN Console, I do not see any live data, and in the session information I get the message:
“This device has not joined the network yet.”

Gateway details:

  • Name: Sunflower

  • ID: eui-0000001ec03afb86

  • EUI: 0000001EC03AFB86

  • Network: NS_TTS_V3://ttn@000013

  • Location: 52.3249, 4.8729

  • Altitude: 10 m

Sensor details:

  • Frequency plan: Europe 863–870 MHz (SF9 for RX2 – recommended)

  • LoRaWAN version: 1.0.3

  • Regional Parameters version: RP001 Regional Parameters 1.0.3 revision A

  • Network server address: eu1.cloud.thethings.network

  • Application server address: eu1.cloud.thethings.network

  • Join server address: eu1.cloud.thethings.network

  • Activation mode: OTAA

What I tried:

  • Read the TTN documentation

  • Read the Dragino documentation

  • Read other relevant forum posts

  • Google searches

  • Asked ChatGPT

  • Verified that the AppEUI, DevEUI, and AppKey in the TTN Console match the values on the sensor package

  • Reset the sensor

  • Removed and reinserted the batteries

Does anyone have any idea what could be the issue?

Thanks.

700m could be too far away in an urban environment. Try activation again closer to the gateway and if that doesn’t work, closer to another gateway.

Will try.
Thanks

We tested LHT52 and Vutlan LR490. LHT is not working in line of sight 450 meters. LR490 is working on 850 meters in line of sight or on 450 meters behind the mountain.

@samum, in “not working “, do you mean in the join process, or even regular uplink not working on 450 m?

Weak signal, bad antenna.. et cetera
