Network Setup Essentials

Learn, share and ask about setting up a IoT network in your region.
Sub-topics can include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Gateways Used
  • Coverage (Rural/Urban)
  • Applications (Apps and Hardware)
  • Social Benefits
  • Crowdfunding

We are in North America.
Does anyone have information on FCC acceptance of Kerlink Gateways for NA?

Or, are there others in NA planning networks with other gateways?

I have talked with Yann Bauduin, and he’s great.
I’m just not clear their a timetable for getting Kerlink Gateways here.

Have you seen the Semtech “LoRa and FCC” documents?

Hi,

FCC tests will be done (and hopefully passed) second mid of September on KERLINK’s IoT station. KERLINK should be able to ship FCC labeled IoT station by october then.
Engineering samples can be already purchased nevertheless.

To frvisser : The FCC mode that is used by Kerlink is known as Hybrid Mode. Please contact KERLINK to know more about its technical characteristics.

Hi, Yann,
Can you follow up on this thread? Or via email once the the Kerlink passes FCC? And, I will email you regarding engineering samples. Thanks!

If anyone is interested, I would like to meet a new IoT network startup person or two. We are beginning our social-benefit and configuration planning and would like to chat about ‘best practices’ and such.

Ping me, or connect here, if you are further along and have the time to exchange a couple of notes.

Thanks!

To frvisser: Are you referring to this document?

Yes I am. Was just googling around.

Thanks!

Hello @creatinghere,

I am interested in this Lorawan technology and believe that a lot could benefit from such.

I’m new here and have been browsing around try to learn about this. Although I don’t have a background in IT, I do understand the concept of IOT, as this is often used in our field of building automation/buildling management systems.

Regarding Lorawan, I’ve learned that the frequency is the same as EnOcean. Does this sound familiar to anyone? In Europe, the frequency used is also 868Mhz. From here, would it be possible for the Lorawan gateways to read the signals given by these EnOcean sensors/transmitters, since they are operating at the same frequency?

I’m not sure if I am making sense. Can this be possible? If so, this would give me more reason to set up a network in my country.

The simple answer is that LoRaWAN and EnOcean even though they use the same frequency band use different encoding and therefore will not be compatible with each other.

Regards

Andrew

@Oliver I have EnOcean and LoRaWAN sensors running side by side.
In EU EnOcean runs on 868.3 but there are many other protocols that operate in the same band.
They all have to conform to the same transmission rules which limit the time the can transmit each hour.
Which is called the duty cycle.

Hello all,

Is there any certification or radio approvals, 868 Mhz approvals for SEAsia? Where can I get support on the application for product type approval for this frequency/wireless protocol?
