Procure Equipment and Parts

You'll need the following items (and where we got them):

1. Multitech Conduit Gateway (Multitech)
2. Waterproof Plastic Enclosure (Amazon)
3. PG11 Waterproof Cable Gland Connectors x 2 (Amazon)
4. Outdoor RJ-45 Surge Protector (Amazon)
5. SMA Antenna Pigtail Cable (Amazon)
6. 900 Mhz Omnidirectional Antenna (L-Com)
7. Ethernet Cable

Tools

1. Drill with 18mm Bit
2. Phillips Screwdriver
3. Wrench
4. RJ-45 Crimp Tool

Cut Holes and Mount Cable Glands

Cut out 2 holes in the enclosure. One will be used for the power and RJ-45 cable, while the other will be used for the antenna cable. We used the 18mm bit to ensure a tight fit for the PG11 cable gland. You can use smaller cable glands and cut out holes accordingly.

Pass Cable Thru the Enclosure

Pass the cables thru the cable glands. The RJ-45 connector is too big to fit through the cable gland so we have to crimp one on once its passed thru.

Connect, Test, and Close

Connect the cables to the Multitech conduit and tighten the cable glands. At this point, its a good idea to run a quick test and make sure all the cables are connected properly. Afterwards, seal the lid, connect the antenna and mount outdoors. You'll probably want to add some surge protection on the RJ45 and power cables (or PoE).

Mount Outdoors

Lastly, find a nice rooftop and mount your equipment. You may need to procure some additional items depending on your specific setup. This specific roof has access to power, but we had to run out last minute for some extra long Cat6 cable.

We mounted the gateway enclosure directly on the wall with the cable glands facing down.

We did not end up using the provided antenna fasteners, but chose instead to use these extra large zip ties.
