This is a guide on how I made a device that gets me out of bed a bit earlier if our driveway has snowed in. I have used the LoRa-E5 SoC and an ultrasonic sensor tuned for snow surfaces. It can last for a few years on a AA-sized battery. Hope you find it useful!
Nice project, your snow depth sensor using LoRa and ultrasonic detection sounds great! You could further improve its accuracy by integrating a Pressure and Temperature Sensor. It provides precise barometric pressure and temperature readings, allowing you to compensate for environmental variations like air density and temperature, both of which affect ultrasonic measurements in snow. This combo would make your sensor more reliable year-round, even in changing weather conditions.
